What customers see when they edit a bundle
Last updated: October 5, 2026
The basics
- The customer's current bundle is shown with each item's quantity filled in. Their items come first, followed by the other items the bundle allows.
- Every item has − and + buttons. Items not yet in the bundle show Add to bundle.
- A counter shows how full the bundle is, like "18 / 24 selected". Bundles with no upper limit just show "3 selected".
- Save changes works only when the bundle is a valid size. Until then, the counter turns red.
- A line under the bundle says what the save affects:
- "Changes apply to every future order."
- "Changes apply to your next order." This shows if your Recharge bundle is set to reset after each order.
- After saving, the button changes to ✓ Bundle updated.
Out-of-stock items
- A sold-out item says (Out of stock) in its name, and its button is greyed out.
- If it's already in the bundle, the customer can lower or remove it, but can't add more.
- Sold-out items are listed last, so they don't take up space in the email.
Limits in the email
Email apps have limits, so a few things work differently in the email than on the full bundle page.
| Limit | In the email | On the full bundle page |
|---|---|---|
| Items shown | Up to 15 | Every item the bundle allows |
| Quantity of one item | Up to 9 | No limit beyond your Recharge rules |
| Group limits ("at most 2 from Bacon") | Checked when saving | Guided as they go, with hints |
- An item that already has more than 9 shows its real quantity. The customer can lower it. Saving never cuts it down on its own.
- Items in the bundle that don't fit in the email are kept exactly as they are when the customer saves.
The full bundle page
The full bundle page opens in the customer's browser. They get there from View Full Catalog, from the bundle picture in non-interactive email apps, or when the email sends them there after a problem.
It adds:
- Search across every item.
- A counter and Save bar that stay on screen while scrolling.
- Hints that explain what's needed. When the bundle is the wrong size, the counter turns red and hovering over Save changes says why, like "Add 2 more to save" or "Remove 1 to save". Group and item limits show as a line of their own, like "Up to 3 of this item" or "Up to 2 from this group".
- Quantities above 9.
Good to know: When a customer taps View Full Catalog in Gmail or Apple Mail, the page opens with the changes they made in the email, including an upgrade, even if they haven't saved yet. If their bundle changed somewhere else in the meantime, it opens on the latest bundle instead.
Changing how often it ships
Turn on Allow users to switch selling plans to give customers who already have the bundle a How often dropdown. They can change how often it ships and what's inside in the same save.
- It works with every Bundle choice: the next bundle, the most recent cancelled bundle, or a specific bundle.
- It works for fixed-price and pick-any bundles.
- The dropdown only appears when the bundle is sold on more than one schedule.
- Each schedule shows its price. On a fixed-price bundle, it's based on what the customer pays now, so customers on an older price get a matching price on the new schedule.
- Customers only see the dropdown, not subscribe or one-time options. They're never offered "one-time", because that would mean cancelling their subscription.
- Prepaid bundles don't get a schedule choice.
- If they also upgrade, the bigger size is priced on the new schedule they picked.
- If the schedule change can't be saved, nothing changes: the bundle stays on its old schedule and price.
When the setting is off: customers with a pick-any bundle can still change the schedule if the block is set to a specific bundle. Fixed-price bundles, and blocks set to "next bundle" or "most recent cancelled bundle", don't show the dropdown.
When a save is refused
Saves are always checked against your Recharge rules, even if the email allowed the change. If something's wrong, nothing is changed and the customer sees a message:
| What happened | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| The bundle was changed somewhere else after the email was opened (the Recharge portal, another email) | "Your bundle changed since this email was opened. Open it again to edit the latest version." In Apple Mail they're taken straight to the full bundle page with the latest bundle. |
| Too much from one group | "You've picked more than your bundle allows from one of its groups…" |
| Too much of one item | "You've picked more of one item than your bundle allows…" |
| An item is no longer allowed in the bundle | "One of the items you added isn't available in your bundle anymore…" |
| An item just sold out | "One of the items you added just sold out…" |
| The bundle couldn't be found | "We couldn't find a bundle to update. Please manage it from your account." |
Good to know: Tapping Save twice, or a slow connection that retries, never saves the bundle twice. If the bundle already matches what was asked for, the save simply succeeds.
