Sell a bundle to new customers

When a block is set to a specific bundle, customers who don't have that bundle can build one and buy it from the email. There's no separate setting to turn this on. The same block edits the bundle for customers who have it and sells it to everyone else.

Good to know: Customers who already have the bundle, in any size, are never sold a second one. Customers who have it cancelled get it back to reactivate instead. See who sees what

What the customer sees

  • An empty bundle to fill, or a full one if you turn on Start with default selection (see below).
  • Purchase options: subscribe or buy once, if your bundle is sold both ways.
  • A How often dropdown to pick a delivery schedule. It starts on the block's Default selling plan.
  • A total that updates with the schedule they pick.
  • A Subscribe or Buy now button.

How the purchase happens

Customer What happens when they tap the button
Has a saved card in Recharge The bundle is created right away and charged to their saved card. It's added to their next upcoming order if they have one, so they don't get a second, separate shipment. They see "You're subscribed" or "Order placed".
No saved card (pick-any bundles only) They're sent to your store's checkout with their bundle already in the cart. The discount code and their email come along.
No saved card (fixed-price bundles) The block is hidden for them. Fixed-price bundles can't be added to a Shopify cart from outside your store.

Start with a full bundle

Turn on Start with default selection to open the bundle with the default items you set for each size in Recharge, instead of empty.

  • Sold-out defaults are left out, so the customer fills that spot.
  • Each default is capped at 9 in the email.
  • If there are more defaults than items shown in the email, only the shown ones are filled. The full bundle page shows them all.
  • This only affects customers buying the bundle. Customers editing their own bundle always see their own items.

Messages customers might see

Message What it means
"We're still setting up your bundle. Give it a moment and try again." A purchase is already in progress, or just went through and Recharge hasn't caught up. Nothing is wrong.
"We couldn't complete your purchase right now. Please try again in a moment." Recharge couldn't take the order, for example because the customer has no address.
"We couldn't complete your purchase here. Please order this bundle from our store." The block's discount can't be added because the customer already has a different discount on their account. We never replace an existing discount for a new purchase.
