Choose which bundle the block shows

The Bundle setting decides what each customer sees. It has three kinds of choices.

The Bundle setting listing the recipient's next bundle, the most recent cancelled bundle, and each bundle and size in the store

Quick comparison

Bundle setting Customer has it active Customer only has it cancelled Customer doesn't have it
The recipient's next bundle Edits it Sees "No bundles in your subscriptions." Sees "No bundles in your subscriptions."
The recipient's most recent cancelled bundle Skipped, moves on to an older cancelled bundle Edits it and reactivates it Block is hidden
A specific bundle Edits it Edits it and reactivates it Can buy it

The recipient's next bundle

This is the default. The block shows the bundle in the customer's next upcoming order.

  • If that order has more than one bundle, the block shows the first one.
  • If they have no bundle coming up, they see "No bundles in your subscriptions."
  • Customers can change what's inside. To let them change how often it ships, turn on Allow users to switch selling plans.

Best for: general "edit your box" emails, like a reminder before an order ships.

The recipient's most recent cancelled bundle

The block finds the customer's most recently cancelled bundle, lets them change what's in it, and the button reads Reactivate.

  • If they already have that same bundle active again, the block skips it and looks for an older cancelled bundle.
  • If there's nothing to bring back, the block is hidden.

Best for: win-back emails. Learn more about reactivating

A specific bundle

Pick one of your store's bundles from the list. The block then does the right thing for each customer, in this order:

  1. They have it active: they edit it. Pick-any bundles can also change how often they ship. With Allow users to switch selling plans on, fixed-price bundles can too.
  2. They only have it cancelled: their cancelled bundle comes back to edit, and saving reactivates it. They are never sold a second copy.
  3. They don't have it at all: they can buy it. Learn more about selling

The block looks at all of the customer's subscriptions and one-time orders, not just the next one.

Bundles with several sizes

If a bundle comes in several sizes, each size is its own choice in the list, for example "Meat Box — 6" and "Meat Box — 9". This matters:

  • The block only finds customers who have that size.
  • A customer who has a different size of the same bundle doesn't see the block. They're never offered a second bundle either.
  • The one exception: a customer this block upgraded to the next size keeps seeing it.

Tip: To let customers on every size edit their bundle, use The recipient's next bundle. Adding one block per size also works for editing, but a customer with no bundle at all would see every block offering to sell them a size.

When the block hides itself

Blocks set to a specific bundle or to "most recent cancelled bundle" hide completely when there's nothing to show the customer. This happens when:

  • They have a different size of the bundle.
  • They have the bundle in a form that can't be edited (for example, a preset bundle in Recharge).
  • The bundle is a fixed-price bundle and the customer can't be charged (no saved card). Why?
  • Their bundle couldn't be loaded at that moment. The block hides rather than wrongly telling them they have no bundle.

In Gmail and Apple Mail, the block disappears. In other email apps, it shrinks down to an empty space.
