How to set up and test Zaymo interactive emails in Klaviyo
Last updated: June 8, 2026
Setting up Zaymo interactive emails in Klaviyo involves creating templates in Zaymo, exporting them to Klaviyo, and properly configuring your email flows. Here's a step-by-step guide to get your interactive emails working correctly.
The complete workflow follows these steps: Import your email template from Klaviyo → Reconfigure it in Zaymo with interactive features → Export it back to Klaviyo → Replace your existing email flow with the Zaymo‑enhanced template.
Note: Zaymo's text boxes have limited editing capabilities and cannot add or edit hyperlinks directly. If you need to customize text content or add hyperlinks to your template, make those changes in Klaviyo first, then import the updated template into Zaymo. You can save your configured widgets to your library (using the bookmark tab on each widget) before re‑importing, then add them back to the updated template.
Creating and exporting Zaymo templates
Follow these steps to create your interactive email templates:
Import your existing email template into Zaymo
Add the interactive block and style it according to your needs
Delete any old static CTAs (like "leave a review" buttons) that will be replaced by interactive elements
Export the template to Klaviyo
For detailed guidance on adding blocks, check out our step-by-step guide.
Setting up templates in Klaviyo Flows
Once you've exported your Zaymo template, you need to properly integrate it into your Klaviyo flows:
Navigate to your Klaviyo flow where you want to use the interactive email
Look for the imported Zaymo template in your template library
Replace the existing email template with the Zaymo version
You'll know you're using a Zaymo template correctly when you see the Zaymo interactive email disclaimer at the top of the email.
Understanding Klaviyo preview behavior
When you preview your Zaymo template in Klaviyo, you will see non-interactive content because the preview system cannot render the interactive elements you built in Zaymo.
Preview shows fallback content: Klaviyo displays a simplified, non‑interactive version of your email.
Thumbnail shows original template: The preview thumbnail will display your original pre‑Zaymo template design.
"Go to checkout" appears: You may see generic fallback text like “Go to checkout” instead of your interactive widgets.
Why this happens
Klaviyo cannot display interactive content in their preview system, so they show a fallback version for preview purposes. The thumbnail limitation exists because Klaviyo generates thumbnails from the original template structure.
Customizing Fallback text
You can customize the fallback text that appears in previews to better match your campaign needs. For example, change generic “Go to checkout” text to “BUY NOW” or other branded messaging that aligns with your campaign.
Note: Preview (preheader) text cannot be edited directly in Klaviyo's interface for emails imported from Zaymo. To change the preview text, you must update it in Zaymo and then re‑export to Klaviyo.
Confirming correct setup
Look for the Zaymo interactive email disclaimer at the top of the email.
Check for the “AMP” tag in Klaviyo, which indicates that the interactive elements are properly included.
Remember that interactive functionality will work correctly when emails are sent to actual recipients.
The fallback preview behavior is normal and doesn't indicate a setup problem.
If you're only sending to subscribers, the interactive elements will display correctly and customers won't see the “Go to Checkout” redirect.
Testing your interactive emails
There are two ways to test your Zaymo emails:
Basic UI Testing
The standard "send a test email" function will show you the visual elements but won't execute the interactive functionality.
Full functionality testing
To test the actual interactive features:
In the Zaymo email previewer, use the right panel to connect to a real customer profile
Send a test email to that profile, or execute the action directly in the previewer
Viewing analytics and A/B test results
To see analytics for your Zaymo emails:
Ensure you're using the actual Zaymo template in your Klaviyo flow (not the original template)
Check the Analytics tab in your Zaymo dashboard
Results will only appear after the interactive Zaymo template is actively being used in your flows
Troubleshooting common issues
Email shows "Go to Checkout" instead of interactive elements
This typically happens when:
The customer profile doesn't have an active subscription
There's no card on file for the customer
Your subscription integration isn't properly configured
Solution: Test with a customer profile that has an active subscription and payment method on file.
Template not showing interactive features
If your email doesn't show interactive elements:
Verify you're using the exported Zaymo template, not the original
Check that the template shows the Zaymo disclaimer at the top
Ensure your subscription provider integration is properly set up in Zaymo
Platform compatibility
Currently, Zaymo interactive emails are only compatible with Klaviyo. Other email service providers like OmniSend are not supported at this time.
